Hope Hilton

1. Made my first attempt at a 60-mile walk to recognize a slave named Henry- owned by my family. Went twenty miles. Intend to keep trying until I make it. You can read more here: www.therecognitions.blogspot.com

1a. The photo above is of a slave cemetery next to a plot (circa 1800's) belonging to my family in Shelbyville, Tennessee. The owner of the property has given me permission to make a marker and install it permanently. Henry may be buried there, but I have to accept that I will never really know.

2. Taught a class of eighth-graders about the Industrial Revolution and Child Labor and Carl Sandburg and activism, and they unanimously agreed that would rather be at school than work in a factory (a small victory in my eyes)

3. Need a *FREE* studio for Summer 2007 in New York City? I am going to choose one artist to take residence in my studio for the summer. It's hot in there but you can do it. I know it. Send me an email explaining why it's a good idea that it's you: mail [at] hopehilton [dot] com

4. Even though I don't have time to tutor regularly, I championchampionchampion 826NYC (www.826nyc.org) É it is the greatest art project of all time and I go whenever I can/ should go more

5. Renovated my studio space (painted floors and walls and built a divider) and began hosting films, discussions, lectures, dance parties and curatorial projects; calling it Salvation Space

6. Curated art shows with my collective and with Emma in NYC, Miami and Oakland: www.comeonover.org, www.dospestaneos.com; and hosted this one: www.ychia.com

7. You really are amazing.

8. I broke down and bought an iPod, which felt really extravagant; I now relish the fact that somehow I manage "alone time" on the NYC subway by getting lost in song (Right now I am listening to Deerhunter's "Flourescent Grey" on repeat- absolutely brilliant)

9. I'm going to Montreal for a week!

10. Read "What is the What" twice in ten days. Doing what I can to contribute to Southern Sudan (http://www.valentinoachakdeng.com/?q=foundation)
